Michael Jackson About Madonna: "She is not a nice person..."

Jackson recorded about 30 hours of deeply personal thoughts with his friend and spiritual adviser, Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, between August 2000 and April 2001.

“Well, let’s be very fair to Madonna,” Boteach said. “These comments by Michael were said about his experiences with Madonna years and years ago, when she had an extremely testy public image. She was the Material Girl, the bad girl. And I think Michael was reacting to that.”

“She is not a nice person,” Jackson told Boteach.

Jackson revealed how he and Madonna had bickered about where they would socialize.

“Madonna laid the law down to me before we went out. [She said] I am not going to Disneyland, OK? That’s out,” Jackson said. “I said, ‘I didn’t ask to go to Disneyland.’ She said, ‘We are going to the restaurant. And afterwards, we are going to a strip bar.’

“I said, ‘I am not going to a strip bar, where they cross dress. … I am not going to there. If that’s how it is, forget this whole thing. … Afterwards, she wrote some mean things about me in the press. And I wrote that she is a ‘nasty witch’, after I was so kind to her,” Jackson said.

She’s not the only one to get a piece of his mind.

For all my SWIKs with Madonna as our soundtrack

Today, September 29, 2009 Madonna releases her third (or fourth?) greatest hits album, Celebration, a double CD that spans her twenty-five year career. I can’t let the moment pass without saying a few words about this SWIK Icon. A great deal has already been said about her. What can I possibly add? First, a mix of a few songs that didn’t make this new album and weren’t necessarily hits, but that you may have missed and are worth checking out. Second, a personal history. Any woman my age has grown up with Madonna. We all have some Madonna memories at this point. Whether you love her or hate her, there are probably moments where her music played a part and there’s a specific instance where you can recall hearing a song and having some sort of reaction. I’m huge fan of her music, but this post is not a tribute to her. It’s a trip down memory lane with Madonna providing the soundtrack. So even if you aren’t a Madonna fan, you may enjoy the post. It’s actually a tribute to all the woman in my life who have shared my personal Madonna soundtrack. You can start playing the SWIK Icon Madonna Mix with this new Grooveshark widget and listen while you read. Just press play.

I first heard ‘Holiday” on the radio when I was 12 or 13. I immediately connected. This song seemed to bridge the disco of the 1970’s to the 1980’s. In 1983 disco was dead, but people still wanted to dance. I probably recorded the song from the radio onto a cassette. It wasn’t until summer 1984 and a trip to London that I fell in love with her first album. One of the girls on the trip had a walkman and two cassette tapes, Prince’s Purple Rain and Madonna’s first self-titled album. I borrowed her walkman whenever she wasn’t using it. She was one of the coolest people that I had ever met. I think her name was Kim. She wore lace fingerless gloves, tons of jewelry, and funky clothes. And this was before most of us had seen Madonna. I had never known anyone like this. I spent first to eighth grade at a Catholic school, where the best thing you could do was conform. By the time I returned to the U.S., I knew Madonna’s album by heart. “Lucky Star” was my favorite before it hit the airwaves. When I saw the video, I was fascinated by Madonna’s music and style.

Celebration covers Madonna’s first album well by including all four of her hits “Holiday”, “Borderline”, “Burning Up” and “Everybody”. I’ve included two tracks from the album, “Think of Me” and “Physical Attraction,” on the SWIK Icon Mix. While the sound may be repetitive, what these song represent, and what makes this album seminal for pop music, is the catchy keyboards, underlying dance groove, and basic pop lyrics. Madonna’s first album helped to set the tone for new wave that eventually dominated the 80‘s in the U.S.

I’ll admit that her next album, Like A Virgin, is not one of my favorites. Once again, she shocked everyone with her video, dancing a top gondolas in Venice. The only thing I remember about this album is hearing about the title, Like A Virgin, on the radio in the car with my mother and feeling embarrassed hearing the word ‘virgin’ without the name Mary next to it. Of course, I couldn’t wait to hear the album. It was at this time, Madonna began her dominance of MTV and the era where video began to shape the public’s listening tastes. Her performance on the the first ever Video Music Awards gave us only a small peak into what was to come. Celebration covers the key songs here, including the title track as well as “Material Girl” and “Dress You Up”. I included “Stay” and” Over and Over” on the SWIK Icon Mix. They’re fun and poppy, but this whole album is really a part II of her first. It was released quickly after her first one in 1983 and the sound isn’t much different.

True Blue arrived in 1986. Here we have a cleaned up Madonna with a Marilyn Monroe hairdo. I bought this cassette and remember taking to a youth retreat for my church, where I was one of the teen leaders and organizers. I gave one of the opening “inspirational” talks. I kicked off my speech with “Open Your Heart” and told everyone they needed to be open to the spiritual possibilities of the weekend, and essentially to God. Yes, despite my love for artists like Prince and Madonna, I was pretty dorky and conservative as a teen. The ultimate irony, of course, was when the video for the song came out. Madonna was a peep show dancer with tassels on her boobs. Oops. True Blue has some wonderful tracks, most of which made it onto Celebration. I included “Where’s The Party” on the SWIK Icon Mix. There’s nothing outstanding about this song, except that it’s excellent for getting ready to go out and party.

Madonna’s next album, Like A Prayer, while probably the height of her career, was for me, where she slipped into the background. In 1989, I was into alternative music. It all began when I left college in the middle of my sophomore year and moved home with my parents. I had no idea what I wanted study for a career at the time so thought I would take a break. I got a job at Strawberries Music in Manchester, NH. Within a span of less than three months, I shaved my head, dyed what was left of my hair blonde, and began wearing rubber bracelets, pointy shoes, and old rosaries. Conveniently, the early Madonna look was actually very Goth. I just incorporated Cure t-shirts and A LOT of black.

I remember when Like A Prayer arrived at Strawberries. The original pressings of the vinyl, cassette, and CD were dipped in patchouli. Whenever you walked by the display at the front of the store you inhaled the scent, which seemed far too hippy-ish for Madonna. (Rumor has it that the patchouli was not her idea and subsequent pressings were not scented.) Of course, I bought the cassette. (Today, it STILL smells like patchouli, as do all the cassettes in the case next to it.) I listened and really liked it, but I was in the closet with my love of Madonna’s music and remained so at the time. I returned to college in the fall and got deeper and deeper into the alternative music scene. I found the college radio station and basically rejected most pop music because I had so many new exciting sounds to discover. The songs from this album are classic, and the usual suspects have made this new greatest hits. “Like A Prayer,” “Express Yourself”, and “Cherish.” I added two of my favorites to the SWIK Icon Mix, both of which I think were underrated at the time. “Keep It Together” is a great pop tune. “Love Song” is a duet with Prince, which needs no additional comment.

At the time, I did bring Madonna’s music to my family’s lake house in Maine. I was a different person there, which was often even noted by friends who came to visit. In 1990 “Vogue” arrived from her album, I’m Breathless, which was music for the movie Dick Tracy. A few of the songs from this album made it into rotation at our summer parties at the lake. I’ve mentioned Maine in previous posts (see Noisettes and Siouxsie). In high school and college, I spent my summers there working in restaurants and water-skiing. One summer tradition involves huge pot-luck parties at the neighbor’s house. After dinner, everyone from grandparents down to the youngest grandchild starts dancing. We listen to a lot of 50’s music and classic rock. In the summer of 1990, I must have pulled out “Vogue”. To this day, I think everyone identifies this song with me and Gretchen, a family friend who visits almost every year. We did our version of ‘Vogue-ing’ at one of these parties. I’m sure Gretchen was much better at it than me. Whatever we did impressed the hell out of everyone. I’m sure it helped that Gretchen was a funky dresser and showed up with her own rubber bracelets.

Other than “Vogue”, there’s nothing on the new collection from I’m Breathless and there’s not much beyond “Vogue” that’s impressive on this album. I included “Now I’m Following You” and “Hanky Panky” on the SWIK Icon Mix. They’re not spectacular, but they were funny and it was an interesting change in direction for Madonna. At the time, “Vogue” illustrated her ability to take something that was underground and make it a pop cultural phenomenon. ‘Vogue-ing’ was a term that came from the gay club scene. To this day, some will vilify and others will celebrate her ability to take certain music and trends to the masses.

In 1992 Madonna had a small role in A League of Their Own. The song “This Used To Be My Playground” from the movie was a hit and is on the new greatest hits. This movie and the song also have a connection for me in Maine. I went to see the movie at an old theater in Maine with Kristen and Shannon, who are sisters that live in the house next to ours at the lake. While the movie seems to be about the women’s baseball league in the 1940’s, its really about the relationship between sisters. I remember walking out of the film, all of us in tears. And I don’t even HAVE any sisters. But I knew Kristen and Shannon well enough. The song and the movie remind me how lucky I was, and still am, to have these two amazing women in my life. It also explained A LOT about their relationship.

In 1991, after college graduation, I moved to London. My friend JennD. came along and hung out for a few months. (I have a few friends named Jenn so will identify each with the first initial of their last names) I met JennD in 1989 at a party when I was living in NH. We became instant friends. I gave her $20 to buy me Violent Femmes concert tickets without even knowing how or when I would see her again. She eventually became one of my best friends and fashion guides. She was the one who bleached my hair and shaved my head. For some reason, it wasn’t until we got to London that I realized that she too was as huge fan of Madonna’s music. While we were in London, we went to see Madonna’s documentary, Truth Or Dare (called In Bed With Madonna in the UK). Later, my friend Carmel, who I worked with at Harrod’s department store, started calling me Madonna. I had completely white-blonde, shoulder-length hair and apparently looked much like Madonna did in the movie. (Years later, I can admit that this was NOT a good look for me.) Carmel used a phrase from the movie whenever I walked into work. She would say, “Hey Madonna.” She continues to address letters and emails to me with this same greeting.

JennD and I were completely broke for most of our time in London. We spent many evenings just hanging out with a few friends the tiny kitchen of our flat in Parsons Green. One night after several bottles of lager and hard cider, I recall JennD writhing around on the floor in all her Goth regalia dancing to “Lucky Star”. Of course, I did the same. I think we attempted to recreate the video and fell over the table and one chair that made up the kitchen. Sadly, we never made to see the Blonde Ambition tour, which was probably her best one.

Madonna’s next album, Erotica, actually suited the alternative Goth world that I found myself inhabiting when I returned to Boston in 1992. Starting with her single “Justify My Love”, from her first greatest hits album, Madonna had moved into exploring sex and S&M themes. This aligned with the Goth scene, where fashion often included a lot of bondage gear, leather, and very high heeled boots. Most of it was for show, but it certainly was intertwined. Erotica was a critically acclaimed album, but didn’t sell as much as her previous albums. There are a ton of great songs, but everything was overshadowed by her book, Sex, which was released at the time. “Erotica” is a great song and is on Celebration. I included “Bad Girl” and “Rain” on the SWIK Icon Mix. “Bad Girl” became a staple for me at the time. It’s about all the things you do forget someone. It also seems to capture a sense of that moment when you realize that you need to leave something, but you’re not sure how to do it.

During this time, I continued to work in record stores and began managing a band. Picked up from some record label representative, I had a massive six foot poster of the cover of Erotica album in the front entryway to the apartment that I shared with two roommates. Ever patient, these roommates, Nancy and Marla, put up with all the nonsense that this band and its lead singer caused in my life. I founded a record label with the singer, but after several years I realized that I was extremely unhappy. As I worked my way out of the mess of the band, the relationship, and the whole Goth scene that had overtaken my life, Nancy and Marla were the few people left in my life when I finally walked away.

By this time Madonna had released her album Bedtime Stories. “Secret” is an outstanding pop song with a bluesy groove. You can find it on the new collection. Madonna was off of the sex stuff and her sound was mellowing out. She had a hit with the much slower “Take A Bow”. One of my favorites from this album is “Human Nature”, included on the SWIK Icon Mix. I remember being amused by the video. She was making fun of all the crazy stuff that she had done and the S&M scene in general. Like it was all kind of joke and why didn’t everyone get it? Which was how I started to feel about the Goth scene. In the song she says that she has no regrets. This reasonated. The other song on the SWIK Icon Mix is the title track from this album, “Bedtime Story” which was written by Bjork. It pointed to the new direction that Madonna would take on her next album. It was a trancey, but still pop, and totally refreshing. It was then that I took a new direction as well.

I began taking a hip-hop dance class. It was here that I met the girlfriends who would be critical to some major changes in my life. Finally rid of the band and and a bad relationship, hanging out with these friends became some of the happiest times of my life. Ray of Light came out in 1998. Madonna brought in producer William Orbit and created a totally new sound. She showed that, once again, she had her fingers on the pulse of pop music. The album oozed joy and renewal. (Likely due to the fact that she had just had her first child.) I remember talking to my friend, Sadie, about the album and how we could not stop listening to it. She listened to it while she worked on her computer all day designing web sites. I had it in the CD payer of my car for my commute to work. I would take out to listen to something else, but quickly came back to it. Then put it in the CD player at home.

Another distinct memory from this era was dancing at a gay club with JennJ, a friend from the hip-hop class. We used to go out dancing A LOT and, like any other city, the best places were generally gay clubs. A remix of “Ray of Light” came on. We went nuts. It was one of those freeing moments, just being happy and having a good time with your friends. Ray of Light captures this period of my life. You can find all the hits from this album on Celebration. I’ve added two of my favorites to the SWIK Icon Mix, but really it’s worth getting the whole Ray of Light album. “Sky Fits Heaven” was the song that really stood out for me. It’s about just getting on with life and watching things as go, it’s catchy and groovey. I’ve also included “Nothing Really Matters” which seems to be about keeping life in perspective. I’ve listened to this album during most of the time I wrote this post. It still holds up.

After Ray of Light, Madonna released “Beautiful Stranger” from the second Austin Powers movie, and a cover of “American Pie”. While you may want to cringe at her remake of this classic Don Mclean song, I have to mention it. The single went to #1 in several countries and #29 in the U.S. I first heard her cover version in the summer of 2000 while I was in London visiting my friend Deb. We had worked together at Harrod’s in 1991 and remained close friends. When I was living there, we spent many Friday nights at a pub called the Flounder & Firkin. There was a piano player who covered all sorts of American classics. “American Pie” was one of his closing tunes. Deb christened this my theme song. We spent many Friday nights standing on tables, knocking over pint glasses, and screaming “Bye Bye Ms. American Pie” with the rest of the pub. I included Madonna’s version on the SWIK Icon Mix. It’s catchy and brings back A LOT of memories, from 1991 and from the summer of 2000.

Despite being happy in during my last few years in Boston, it was time to make some career changes. I had finally left the record stores behind, but I wasn’t happy with my high-tech job. I decided to go to graduate school and move to NYC. I lucked out again on the friend front and met more incredible woman in NYC. Overall, my first few years in NYC were fantastic, one big party with some amazing people. There were tough times, but mainly we made it through because of solid friendships. The partying culminated our second year with a birthday/halloween party for one of my best friends, Sasha. We asked everyone to dress up like Madonna or someone associated with her life. Madonna’s album Music had just come out, so I wore a fake fur-coat, press-on nails, and a cowboy hat. Sasha outdid everyone by sewing some pointy cones into a shirt and capturing the essence of the Blonde Ambition era. My roommate, Shauna, was the Goth-inspired Madonna from the “Frozen” video, complete with fake henna on her hands. Fiona, my other roommate, donned a lot of lace including a bow in her hair to be the 80’s Madonna. The guys deserve some serious props for stepping up that night. Sasha’s then boyfriend, now husband, came as Sean Penn in a leather jacket and cool hat. Another close friend did an amazing job as Madonna’s rabbi from the kabbalah center, bringing the critical red string for our wrists. His girlfriend came as Courtney Love, who had been warring with Madonna at several awards shows. Another, more conservative friend, showed up in his usual khakis and polo shirt calling himself Warren Beatty.

Writing this all down, it sounds like complete idiocy, especially since we were all in our late 20‘s and early 30‘s. But it was a great party. The downstairs neighbors came up and asked us to leave, because our dancing was keeping them awake. So we left and headed to a bar. Unfortunately, there are limited photos from this party. I have a few polaroids, but can’t seem to find the rest.

Less than a year later, while I was unemployed and barely surviving in NYC, I finally went to see Madonna in concert. I heard on the radio that there were tickets left for her show that very night in New Jersey. You couldn’t buy tickets over the phone or online, but if you went there, the announcer claimed that here would be tickets available. This was her Drowned World tour which had been getting great reviews. I called Sasha, who actually had a job, and we made a quick decision. We rented a car and drove to NJ to see what tickets we could get. We vowed not to spend more than $150 each. We got there and picked up $75 tickets that ended up being center stage in one of the first rows above the floor seats. It was an exciting moment for both of us. Granted, my memories of the build up and getting the great seats at the last minute have now outshone the actual concert. We both bought Madonna coffee mugs that said “Too Fresh” on the side. They were the cheapest piece of merchandise available. And, really, at our age, would we honestly walk around in Madonna t-shirts? (OK, probably yes, but that’s another story.) Being unemployed in NYC after accumulating two years of debt in graduate school was difficult. While these are some of our happier memories, there is no doubt that I could not have survived this period without my roommates, Shauna and Fiona, and Sasha. She helped me through many “I’ll Never Find a Job” panic attacks.

Music was great album, although not as strong as Ray of Light. I added a few of the songs that I think stand out, but didn’t make it to her new collection. Madonna’s next album, American Life, was mostly a disaster. Far too many slow songs, which is not her strong suit. At the end of the day, even I can admit, she’s just not a really great singer. She’s an entertainer and a performer. She puts her songs together in a great packages using great producers, but alone with a guitar is not the most appealing. She had the title track and a small role in the 2002 James Bond film Die Another Day. The song was OK, but certainly not as good as many of her other hits. There’s a song from the album on Celebration and I’ve included a slower song on the SWIK Icon Mix. It’s what I would call one of the ‘least horrible’ from American Life.

This album, in my mind, was the only misstep in her twenty-five year career. She recovered quickly and came back with the brilliant Confessions on a Dance Floor. I first heard “Hung Up” in my current favorite dance class (see Trina post). As I’ve mentioned, this class is sometimes my life line to dance music and exercise. Some weeks it’s the ONLY exercise I get and for a while the only place that I heard new music. No matter how much I suck at the routine or how crappy my day work, this class brings me joy. The instructor Angela is fantastic. We have fun while she kicks our butts and makes sure we get a work out. While I haven’t made the deep connections like I did all those years ago in the Boston dance class, there is a core group of women that show up every week who help to make it a comfortable place to let loose. (Daphane, Boni, Aya, that’s you!) “Hung Up” came out in 2005, so I’ve been taking this class for a while. It’s addictive.

Confessions on a Dance Floor is her best since Ray of Light. Almost every song is good. She’s doing exactly what she does best, getting people to dance. This time with a look back to ’70s disco. I included “Sorry” on the MJ and the SWIK Mix, so here I included some of my other favorites that didn’t make her new collection, “Like It or Not”, “Let It Will Be”, and “Future Lovers”.

Finally, we come to her latest album Hard Candy. Once again she’s tapped into the pulse of pop music. Once again, I discovered “4 Minutes,” a duet with Justin Timberlake, in dance class last year. I like this album, it has some great pop tunes and a few decent slower songs. “Miles Away” is on her new greatest hits. I included “Incredible” on the SWIK Summer dance mix. Here I added “She’s Not Me” and “The Beat Goes On” both deliver the pop dance grooves we expect.

So there you have it. September 2009. Twenty-five years of my life and Madonna’s music. There’s nothing more to say about Madonna that probably hasn’t already been said by someone else. You either like her or you don’t. I don’t really care. For me, as a teen in the 1980‘s with a love for pop music, she has become part of the soundtrack to my life. Do you need her new greatest hits? Probably not. If you already have most of her albums just grab the new single, also called “Celebration.” If you haven’t bought one of her albums in 10 or 15 years, then it’s probably worth picking up Celebration.

What struck me while writing this post wasn’t any new insight into Madonna’s music, but rather how lucky I’ve been. No matter where I’ve lived and what I’ve been through, amazing women have stepped up to be my friends. Each and every one a true SWIK. Some, who aren’t listed here, share a very different soundtrack with me. To those women, if you haven’t already, don’t be misled into thinking that you won’t show up in another post. If I’ve missed one of our shared Madonna moments, then please forgive me and add a comment. I’m old and forgetful now.

Much love,
~DJKyrawoman

MADONNA: THE POWER OF GOOD-BYE (VIDEO 44)

A lesson for Anna [Wintour]

It’s perfect time, the newspaper industry is in real trouble – a bunch are up for sale or miring chap 11 (bankruptcy). The medias business’ catastrophe is alone with nothing left but creative minds figuring out how they can reinvent themselves and dump some juicy news contents wherever, whenever we want.

In case you missed the train, we are in the midst of real revolutionary times, a lot of things -Wall street’s financial “Coup d’Etat “, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan- are happening around the world, which itself have been unthinkable one or two years ago.

Unsurprisingly, our favorite media empire- Condénast- has taken note thus has hired Mc Kinsey to figure out imminently a way to reduce the enormous costs-read always flying first for top editors as well as town cars idling even for their assistants, clothing allowances in the high five figures, Franck Gehry’ state of the art cafeteria.

“25 % cut” is nowadays the most talk about word inside the 4 times Square’ Building and everyone is worried about who’ll be the next checking the unemployment’ services

On the other side of the ocean, Vanity Fair’s Italy is doing well, pretty well. In the last NYTimes Sunday Ed, Luca Dina- editor in  chief – explained us few things on how a glossy magazine like Vanity Fair become profitable amid a dying industry.

“The winning idea was to take it weekly” he proudly said, though everyone was a little bit scared when the magazine was first introduced in 2003, “its easier to build a connection with the reader”.

Basically, he’s doing the exact opposite of infamous fashion priest -Anna Wintour-, following a strict rule that ads are never more than 50 percent of the magazine content.

A ruled which itself has paid off very well, the title is the number 1 magazine in terms or revenues and profits. Its bigger than any International Vogue.

Madonna equals Elvis Presley with 11 top-selling albums in Britain

LONDON (AFP) – Madonna secured her 11th number one album in Britain on Sunday when her greatest hits collection “Celebration” shot to the top of the charts — equalling Elvis Presley’s record.

The pop diva’s collection of 36 hits spanning her lengthy career knocked Muse’s “The Resistance” from the number one position in its debut week, the Official UK Charts Company said.

The singer has now matched Elvis Presley’s record of 11 number one albums for a solo artist in Britain, and is four behind The Beatles who hold the all-time record of 15 top-selling albums, according to the company, which compiles the weekly rundown.

Madonna also becomes the most successful female solo artist of all time in Britain with the most weeks at the top of the album charts — 29 — the most number one singles — 13 — and the most chart doubles for topping the singles and album charts simultaneously – four, the company said.

The top of the singles chart remains the same, with singer songwriter Taio Cruz holding on to the number one spot for a second week with “Break Your Heart.”

{cocktails} what's Madonna's favourite?

If you want to have the same cocktail as George Clooney, does that make you a Clooney fan or a cocktail fan? For e.g, I think Madonna’s uber cool coz she hasn’t let age or the likes of Beyonce dampen her bid to reigning pop goddess.

So if there’s a cocktail she digs, it’s definitely going to have a bit of her personality in it. From here I gather she’s a fan of the Pomegranate Martini at the Prime Grill, LA.

While George Clooney, the bachelor with all the good films behind him, is a fan of the Raspberry Cheesecake at the Cherry, Las Vegas.

Meanwhile, Eva Mendes of the famous pout, likes the Pink Elephant at the Pink Elephant, NY.

Who makes up this list? I’d like to have his/her job! And while I’m waiting, I’m thinking of trying Quentin Tarantino’s fave — Cains lager!

2009 MTV Video Muzik Odulleri -Kirmizi Hali

1. Beyoncé
Dokuz dalda adayligi bulunan Beyoncé, Roberto Cavalli imzali kirmizi elbisesiyle kirmizi haliya feci halde uyum sağlamis.

There's a reason to Celebrate!

As you know Madonna has millions of fans around the world. I am one of them. And many of those hardcore fans are super collectors of Madonna memorabilia. I am not one of them. So when Madonna releases a “Greatest Hits” CD (her 3rd one), my first thought is “why bother buying it when I have 99% of the songs that are featured on this Greatest Hits package?”.

But this time was different. I became a Madonna fan when “Ray of Light” was released and joined the M super fans when “Hung Up” made me running from club to club to dance and do the “punching in the air” choreography with my friends!! I went to my first Madonna concert last year in Athens, when she made us all Sticky & Sweet.

Why am I telling you all these? Because when Madonna marks her 25 years in the business with the release of a double CD called “Celebration” which features pretty much every song that has changed someone’s life, there is no excuse for me not to buy it!

The packaging is pretty great and it also has a small surprise in it- a mini poster of the “Celebration” cover! Plus 2 new songs in the CD, for which Madonna worked with DJs Frank E and Paul Oakenfold. But this is post is not to tell you how good (or not!)  it is, or how the re-mastered tracks sound like…

My point is:  If you’re already a Madonna fan, well you don’t need someone to persuade you to buy the CD. But if you’re not, this is a great CD to put into your playlist, simply because there is at least 1 song that will speak to your heart and will make you smile, cry, think, dance, and in the end CELEBRATE life!

Jean Paul Gaultier-The Unconventional Wizard!

There is no denying that some of the most innovative and forward designers stems from France, Jean Paul Gaultier is a prime example of such. His haute couture has been acquired by celebrities like Madonna, Kylie Minogue and Marilyn Manson. His style has dazzled viewers across the world and received respect from fellow creators.

If that beautiful wedding dress somehow ended up on my doorstep, I would marry the troll that brought it. Knomes and all!

The lines, cuts and designs are flattering, feminine and fantastic. If everyday was a runway, and life was Haute Couture, Jean Paul Gaultier would be ruler of the world.

Dita Von Teese is an avid follower and model for his threads. She exudes classic Hollywood style with her snow-white porcelain face. A perfect muse!

As Jean Paul Gaultier  continues to celebrate women of all ages, he must have a secret castle tucked away somewhere in the French countryside that is only fit for a king…or a wizard.

MADONNA: FROZEN (VIDEO 41)

The Work of Director Chris Cunningham.

O BICHO PREGUIÇA!

Opa!

O foda é aguentar a tiazona todo dia. Pra isso, arrumem uma amante mais nova! Fica a dica!

A nova geração?

Droga..

Letícia

AFTERNOON MARTINIS...

10 Celebrity News links at Sunset: The Hollywood life is all about afternoon martinis and talking about celebrity antics, pop stars, naughty stars and block buster movies and beautiful pop music.

The martinis at sunset are made strictly with Grey Goose vodka as a tribute to the giggles that Chelsea Handler brings on.

The Kiwi in me wishes they had 42 Below Feijoa vodka here in El lay,  at the local. But of course, no one really knows what a feijoa really is here on the strip. That would be way to real, organic and healthy. Anyway, here’s ten celebrity hot topics of interest tonight on Horiwood.Com. See below:

1. Dick Cook, Chairman of Disney has quit his job. Only Johnny Depp who lives in France seems to be upset by this–Empire Times

2. Whoopie Goldberg pops Kate Gosselin’s self-indulgent poor me bubble, by reading Kate the rules about how custody disputes are supposed to go. Kate had no idea!–TheHollywoodGossip

3. Because Mariah Carey’s new movie Precious about a teen whose domestic home environment is OOC distubring just won an award at Toronto, Christina Arguilera feels the need to divulge more about her childhood as a victim of domestic violence, closing the market on Mariah’s new heat. Oh honey, just do it through your music!–Contact Music

4. Five time grammy winner, Amy Winehouse announced that she’s starting her own record label, Lioness Records for young artists. Perhaps the new artists might inspire Amy to finish her own album! Nice to see Amy want to mentor. What progress!–AmyWinehouseNews

5. Glee has been greenlit for a second season. Woot!–TheHollywoodReporter

6. Double the Dancing Stars: Karina Smirnoff tells E! News that the cast of Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance may guest star their talent on ABC’s Dancing With The Stars. That’s more dance hotness than anyone could handle.

7. Because Neil Patrick Harris is the hot kid of Hollywood after his Emmys hosting gig, his costars of How I Met Your Mother, Chloe Sevigny and Jason Segal have decided that they are quite hot too. The new couple reportedly hooked up and were spotted at HBO’s Emmy party, swapping spit and enjoying their night. How cute.

8. Rachel Bilson kicks off the Coco Before Chanel premiere at NYC’s Paris Theater, dressed head to toe in Chanel–Just Jared

9. Madonna has her heart set on an Emmy win like Justin Timberlake. The Material Girl is planning on returning to Saturday Night Live, after 16 years–BoyCulture.

10. America’s Got Little Talent for drinking vodka, as David Hasselhoff is hospitalized Sunday, for alcohol poisoning after going on a 2 day  bender. An expert at PR, the Hoff knew that the Emmys is  the best time to misbehave for press. He got  his wish and his headlines today–CelebSlam

Here’s American Idol alum, David Archuletta’s performance of Contigo En La Distancia, at Friday’s ALMA awards.

Top 5 Celebrities with no Ass

In the picture above is the champion of ass, Kim Kardashian. That’s a perfect ass, and it’s hard too come by.

But today I’m gonna talk about the half-ass celebrities or better yet the no-ass females in Hollywood. A woman must have curves in the right places and one of those places is the ass. The ass is the most appealing body part in a woman as far as I’m concern.  Next I’m gonna review the top 5 celebrities with a bony ass. Most of them use covert tactics to hide their ass from the flashes of the paparazzi. I’m gonna expose their emaciated asses in all their gauntness.

5. Shitney Smears. Her pelvis is too wide and flat. Ass is not curvy at all. She never had a great ass. Now it’s a haggard ass. Not only she has an emaciated ass but is a tired ass. An ass should be at least firm. I bet all she does is sit on her ass and smoke cigarettes when she’s not lip syncing. An ass must be worked hard in order to have that bubble look that men appreciate.

4. Cameron Diaz. Now she’s been fucking a lot of dudes but still has no ass, her ass has an odd look, actually it doesn’t look like an ass at all it looks like a vagina on her lower back. But I’m sure she’s a nice person.

3. Gisele Bundchen I don’t know what people see in her.  She looks like a man, her long legs stop somewhere in her lower abdomen without any clue that an ass is present, there’s nothing sexy about her. Might as well put Michael Phelps in a dress looks exactly like her.  I think she could be a tranny.

2. Madonna. Everything Madonna does on stage is a distraction from the fact that shes ass-les. Also she has an unibrow. You can pluck a unibrow but you can’t pluck a new ass.

1. Angelina Jolie is the Queen of no ass. She’s in a league of her own. Her ass is nowhere to be seen. You might say that she compensates in lip power. The lips take all the attention off her haggard ass. But is not enough. There is no substitute for a nice ass. No matter how big your lips are. You can’t do a booty clap with your lips and call it a lip clap.

So there you have it. It’s a shame that so many celebrities chose to inflate their lips and make their lips bigger when they should be focusing on their ass instead, and inflate the ass. The ass is much more important than lips in terms of sex-appeal.

Celebration video: mystery solved!

For those who were wondering why there were those awful teasers featuring an awkward Paul Oakenfold, well, looks Jonas Akerland made a “Fan Version” of Celebration as well. Near the end, you can see flashes of Paul dancing (also awkwardly) so in conclusion, the original clips were awkward outtakes from this version.

The video also features various real fans wearing outfits from the Sticky and Sweet tour.

And I had that first Madonna shirt with the big red lips in my hands in Camden Market but they didn’t have any sizes that fit me properly. Dammit.

Also, look out for a very adorable Lourdes in her mum’s MTV get-up from the very first MTV Awards appearance. My my, how she has grown!

Anyway, this video is super cute but it also made me just a little gayer watching it.

Morning Countdown #22: The DIVA Edition (9/19/09)

First, a couple of notes on books I’ve read this week.

Their Eyes Were Watching God – Zora Neale Huston: Solid African-American love story set in post-slavery time. According to the afterword, Richard Wright (who wrote the awesome “Native Son”) criticized this book for being rather pointless. He’s right in that it doesn’t have political aspirations per se, but sometimes, a good love story can just be a good love story and still be worth reading.

Don’t Stop Believin’: How Karaoke Conquered the World and Changed My Life – Brian Raftery: Writers need to write about things they feel passion for, and this book has passion all over it. Raftery doesn’t like karaoke; he LOVES it, and his passion is completely contagious. I swear, one of the first things I’m going to do when I’m back in Korea is to warble some tunes in a karaoke booth.

Okay, now on to Today’s “very special” Countdown:

1) Million Dollar Bill – Whitney Houston
2) I Want to Know What Love Is – Mariah Carey
3) Make Me – Janet Jackson
4) Revolver – Madonna
5) You Belong With Me – Taylor Swift

Anybody notice a pattern? Yes, today’s countdown is an All-Star Diva Edition, as I don’t think there has ever been a time when more pop divas had new songs out bouncing off each other like sequin-covered bumper cars. The only real bonafide diva missing is Kylie Minogue, who’s too busy getting ready for her first U.S. tour (good luck, Kyles!). So it’s a ripe time for a Countdown Catfight, so let’s begin.

We begin with Whitney, whose new album sold more copies in its first week than any of Whitney’s previous albums. Well, I’ve gotta say, it’s pretty well-deserved. Like I’ve said before, Whitney’s voice is no longer the perfect crystal chandelier it once was (the chandelier has chunks missing now), but the songs themselves are among the best Whitney’s been given to handle. It’s kind of the opposite situation from a song like “I Have Nothing” which was featured in a previous Countdown: perfect vocals, but boring-ass song. Now we have a raspy, can’t-handle-high-notes voice, but we have some kick-ass tunes. It’s all about the rhythm now–not the high notes–and “Million Dollar Bill” proves itself to be catchier than the Swine Flu and the common cold combined. Welcome back, Whitney. Now, be sure to release “Call You Tonight” as the next single, and stay off the you-know-what (she seemed a bit too excited when she was telling Oprah just how she prepared the drugs she was taking).

Next, we have Whitney’s old vocal rival and duet partner, Mariah, with her remake of the 80’s Foreigner hit. Now Mariah’s had problems herself with a breaking-down voice, but still, there’s something about the way Mariah Carey handles a ballad that draws you in and hooks your heart; it’s that plaintative quality. And there is also that whistle note; she’s used them in about a hundred songs now, but it still provides a roller coaster thrill just like the first time I heard it. This stands right alongside Mariah’s best covers, “Bringin’ on the Heartbreak” and “Against All Odds” (and far above her renditons of “I Still Believe” and “Open Arms” which were clunkers).

Talking of clunkers, we come to Miss Jackson’s new song. But first, let’s discuss Janet’s performance at the MTV Awards. As brief as her performance was, she owned that stage, eclipsing everyone, including Beyonce who later performed. But we have to go back to discussing vocal problems, because Janet’s were almost unlistenable, despite the fact that she was LIP-SYNCING. What the heck? Now, Janet was never a belter, but she still had a sweet, girlish coo that wrapped summer jams in rays of sunshine. But in the last few albums, she’s either sounded like a robot (”Feedback”) or her vocals were so wispy that they were barely there (”Rock Wit U”). The same problems plague “Make Me.” The song itself might have been decent, but her voice has almost no personality, no real energy, and none of the presence that she has on the stage, and as a result, it’s all pretty forgettable, despite the Michael shout-outs in the lyrics.

Now we come to the Queen Diva herself, Madonna, and the second new song off her latest greatest-hits collection. “Revolver” comes from the recent genre that I call “Hook Pop.” What is that, exactly? Well, it’s when a song basically introduces a simple hook (hopefully a catchy one) and basically just repeats it on an endless loop. Examples would include “Hollaback Girl,” “London Bridge,” “Milkshake,” most of Britney Spears’ Blackout album, and pretty much every song the Black-Eyed Peas have ever released. Madonna’s come close to Hook Pop before (”Music,” “Hung Up”), but here, she dives right in, and well, it’s absolutely stupid and addictive at the same time. It works far better than the previous single “Celebration,” which was Madonna retreading familiar ground; here, she sheds all the weight of being Madonna and jumps into a state of goofy bliss, and she takes you there along for the ride.

Now, we go to Taylor Swift. You may well have asked, “What the heck is SHE doing here? Well, you’re right, but it was tough to fill out the fifth spot. Like I said, Kylie doesn’t have a new song out. Beyonce seems to finally have run out of songs to release from her double album (or she wouldn’t have performed “Single Ladies” for the 1,347th time at the VMA’s). Britney did release “Radar” not too long ago, but that song’s been around for YEARS now. Kelly Clarkson, Mary J. Blige, Alicia Keys, and Lady Gaga all have new singles, but they’re not really full-fledged divas (although Lady Gaga is well on her way). So the best choice was clear: Taylor Swift, both because I like her and because I had to comment on the whole Kanye-gate thing.

So let me give my succinct opinion on this. Kanye (who DOES make some great music and will show up on the Top 101 Countdown) acted like a jerk. He is entitled to his opinion, yes, but his opinion is no more important or no more right than anybody else’s (after all, who DOESN’T think their opinion is right???). And he’s actually pulled this kind of crap before, going off on a huge rant when Justice’s “D.A.N.C.E.” video beat out his “Take to the Sky” video for some award a couple of years ago. So Kanye was wrong, wrong, wrong, no matter whether or not you agree that “Single Ladies” was a better video than “You Belong With Me” (and personally, I absolutely disagree, because I prefer videos with stories, I can relate to misfit loners stuck on the bleachers–though I was a “choir queer” and not a “band geek” myself–and the whole prom scene was heart-tugging in classic John Hughes fashion).

That being said, I think people are making too much of the situation. Some people have suggested that Kanye’s actions (just like Serena’s the night before) were indicative of society at large, and how everyone’s sense of right and wrong were pretty much going down the toilet. Personally, I actually saw the whole brouhaha in a completely different light. Kanye acted like a jackass (President Obama was absolutely right), but look at all the people who rallied around Taylor and spoke out against what Kanye did. I thought all of those people’s reactions were far more indicative of society than Kanye’s outburst. People realized that he shouldn’t have acted that way; society didn’t want to accept that kind of behavior. So for me, the score is Kanye 0, Values 1. And Beyonce deserves 1,000 points for the classy way she handled the situation, giving up her speech time so Taylor could finally deliver her speech. To me that was the moment that should and will live on in people’s memories far longer than Kanye bitching on stage.

Okay, now let’s go to Taylor’s song. I love it, pure and simple. It’s simple; it’s sweet; it’s pure teenage pop at its blissful best. It’s going to be very interesting to see how Taylor Swift’s career develops over time, because her music is so-of-the-moment right now. What I mean is, she’s a teenager singing about teenage feelings that teenagers (or in my case, people who never really grew up) can wholly relate to. What is she going to sing about as she grows up? Is she going to continue singing about adolescent crushes, and risking the chance of coming off immature and pathetic? Is she going to go on a “I-am-a-WOMAN-now” sexpot rampage (see Spears, B.)? Or is she going to turn into a “mature” artist, at the risk of alienating her original fan base? Who knows? Perhaps, we should just enjoy the present for what it is, just like Taylor does in her love-happy sings.

So in this Diva Catfight, who wins? Well, if I had to pick my favorite song of the bunch, Whitney would edge Taylor out for the win. But the real winner is YOU, faithful reader, as it’s a Diva Giveaway. Here are all of the five songs (even the disappointing Janet one). All of these Divas deserve to be recognized, and so do you.

Million Dollar Bill – Whitney Houston (Winner)

I Want To Know What Love Is – Mariah Carey

Make Me – Janet Jackson

Revolver – Madonna (w/Lil Wayne)

You Belong With Me – Taylor Swift

Madonna: It's So Cool (Celebration's Bonus Track) + Lyrics

It’s so hard to be someone

It’s so hard to be unknown

In your heart you are to blame

In your heart you play the game

Do you realize you pay the price?

Do you know the cost of all your vice?

Save your soul, it’s all a test

Save your soul, it’s for the best

We need love [love, love, love, love, love]

We need love [love, love, love, love, love]

We need love [love, love, love, love, love]

We need love [love, love, love, love, love]

Save your soul, little sister

Save your soul, dear little brother

You need hope, says the preacher

Learn to cope say all my teachers

Do you really know God’s intention?

Do you ever ask what its all for?

We need love, love and love

We need more, more and more

Prophets are telling us

Were near the end

But I am telling you

That it’s all pretenses

It’s so cool to be uncool

It’s so right to be unright

It’s so good to look so bad

Isn’t this the best thing you ever had?

Double Jeux

Madonna and Janet Jackson to work together

This is probably one of the most special these we have had to announce / talk about. When we first heard about Madonna introducing Janet Jackson we were surprised, as the two divas have had a long-standing animosity between them throughout their divadom. In fact, Janet once called Madonna classless. Look up “diss” and their names on youtube and you will see a myriad of videos.

Yet, after the awards show where Madonna didn’t even say Janet’s name in the introduction, they somehow went to dinner together. Yes, Janet Jackson and Madonna had dinner together. Queens heads are spontaneously combusting everywhere!

The two were talking Michael and, apparently, according to some rumors (and Perez Hilton just now) the two are planning t o work together. This could be the inception of one of the greatest duets in pop history. Can’t wait to hear more.

Quer conferir?? Clica logo no play antes que tirem do ar!

"Celebration": vazou a outra música nova e fotos do clipe original

Mirror mirror on the wall, who’s the baddest of them all?

Long Live the King...

On Sunday night, Madonna gave an award speech to Michael Jackson. In her speech she talked about her kinship with Michael and defined him as a “hero”. She also explained how we let him, “slip through our cracks.” We began talking about this speech and about our experiences since starting raannt. We’ve met a lot of wonderful people, been exposed to a lot of wonderful experiences, but the flip side is true as well. For every article we write, we receive just as much praise as we do hate mail, not necessarily for us, but mostly for the people or the establishments we write about in our blog. This past weekend, we discussed how our motive had been to bring this community, not of straight or gay, black or white, young or old…but the community of Indianapolis together and to help everyone enjoy what our great city has to offer. So, with this video clip, we hope to inspire all of our readers to do great things, come together in our kinship, try to understand one another, critique helpfully and love more, and not let what we have here in Indy slip through our cracks…

We love you Indy…

Music Videos: Gender trouble? Great Scots!

All this talk about who said what at the VMAs made me hungry for some actual music videos (if you haven’t heard what everyone else has been talking about, just read fourfour’s assessment). And after all this discussion about Beyoncé’s ”Single Ladies” music video, Janet and Madonna’s tributes to Michael, P!nk’s suggestive performance, and the pop spectacle that is Lady Gaga, I started to get all sentimental for two great music videos that cement themselves firmly as gender-queer video performances. Interestingly enough, Scottish women are responsible for both of them. Feast your eyes on Annie Lennox’s man-as-a-woman-as-a-man drag performance in The Eurythmics’ “I Need a Man” and Shirley Manson’s utter disregard for public restrooms as gendered spaces in “Androgyny.” Click on the artists’ names and enjoy!

Geweldig!

Ik zeg oordeel zelf!

VMA Wrap-Up

Haley had work to do and I was bored out of my skull so the liveblog ended early.  Here’s a quick wrap-up of what happened.

Michael Jackson is still the King.

Kanye is still a douche.

Fall Out Boy is still hott HoTt HOTT.

Beyonce still has cellulite.

We still miss DJ AM.

Tracy Morgan BLOWS.  Why was he even involved?!?  Since when is he relevant?  I miss Eminem’s blonde hair.  A LOT.

Lady Gaga got best new artist.  I nearly tossed my cookies.  She’s so fucking disgusting.  The best part was that we couldn’t see her face.  I’m sure “God” doesn’t care about your shenanigans and “the gays” should shun you.

I love Pink’s music, but I can’t stand her personality.  Her performance WAS the best though – very athletic.  Still, I’d rather her sing well than see acrobatics and hear broken lyrics and panting.  Cirque de So-so.

Russell Brand should’ve had more bits.  WE LOVE HIM!

Fucking Beyonce won video of the year so all you whiney bitches can shut the fuck up.  She should have been booed.  She should not have been applauded for bringing Taylor Swift on stage – if you ask me, that was the ONLYoption.  I don’t believe for a second that she wasn’t involved in the Kanye ridiculousness and I also don’t believe her publicist didn’t MAKE her do it.

What the FUCK?!?  I thought Cobra Starship was performing.  Disappointed.

How DARE MTV involve Joe Jackson in the MJ memorial.  That man is a MONSTER.  He is one of the worst human beings to ever walk this Earth.  He’s just as responsible for MJ’s death as Dr. Conrad Murray and he MAKES ME SICK.  If I had been there, he would have gotten an earful.  I can only hope that a horrible, horrible death befalls him.  Bless Madonna for sticking it to him on stage.  (I never had a mother, but he never had a childhood.)  I have a new-found respect for her.

CELEBRATION

OK!

Sex and the city gossip

I have a few Sex and the City spoilers for you guys. So if you do not wanna know what’s going to happen, don’t read any further. Carrie’s gay friend Stanford and Charlotte’s gay friend Anthony are gonna get married. This kind of bugs me because even though I know straight girls love to see these two together, I can’t see it. They both look like queeny bottoms so not a good match. Then again Stanford has always had more  feminine-acting  partners. The ballet dancer and the guy that collected dolls. Anthony though, would never pick Stanford. I saw the guy that plays Anthony, Mario Cantone, this year on Broadway with is comedy routine and he is hilarious. Another spoiler is the girls go back to the 80’s where Carrie is dressed like Madonna, Samantha is dressed as Dee Snider from Twisted Sister  and Miranda channels her inner Sally Jesse Raphael sans glasses. And the most revealing story line is that Big is gonna move to London after losing tons of money through the recession and has an affair with a woman there and after Carrie break up with him she finds out  that she is pregnant. Wow

Pornografia i technologia

Björk - All Is Full Of Love

Blisko 40-letni mistrz mrocznych teledysków, miał początkowo inaczej zaplanowaną przyszłość. Młody Chris miał zostać ogrodnikiem w rodzimym Reading. Taką to karierę wybrali dla niego rodzice. Jednak emitowany w tamtym czasie w telewizji serial science-fiction Alana Levina ,,Bionic Showdown” wywrócił świat Cunninghama do góry nogami.

Sztuczna inteligencja”. Niestety twórca ekranizacji ,,Mechanicznej Pomarańczy” zmarł, a prawa do dokończenia filmu przejął Steven Spielberg niedecydując się na zaangażowanie Cunnighana.

Mniej więcej właśnie w tym czasie przyszły twórca wideoklipów zaczął popadać w depresję wynikającą z rozczarowania przemysłem filmowym. ,,Nie byłem szczęśliwy. Zacząłem słuchać dużo muzyki Aphex Twin i brałem kwas. Aphex Twin, a właściwie Richard David James, zaproponował Cunnighanowi posadę reżysera teledysku do jego kawałka ,,Come To Daddy”.

Kolejnym ważnym klipem w videografii niedoszłego ogrodnika był obraz do ,,Only You” brytyjskiej trip-hopowej formacji Portishead.

Przed tym wszystkim jednak Chris zrealizował swoje opus magnum czyli ,,All is Full of Love” Bjork. Ten krótki film jest częścią stałej kolekcji prestiżowego Museum of Modern Art w Nowym Yorku i Royal Academy of Arts w Londynie. Takie wyróżnienie zastanawia reżysera: ,,Zawsze mnie dziwi gdy ktoś mówi, że widział moje filmy. No bo niby gdzie?

Ostatnim dziełem jakie stworzył była miniatura do piosenki “Sheena Is A Parasite” zespołu The Horrors.

,,Jestem zbyt niespokojny by robić tylko klipy, chcę aby moje prace były trochę bardziej multimedialne”. Czekamy z niecierpliwością… genialny psycholu.

Courage To Love by Californian author Robert Ellis is created and written in the spirit needed in American schools today. In a Shakespearean love story set in the Middle East two young people from opposite worlds, find love from a sense of honesty only found in accepting each others difference. So romantic. Read it. It’s  a great book for all American school children … and kidults too. Cover artwork is by the legendary surrealist artist, Salvador Dali.

#228: Every Gay Man Should Love...

Twenty years ago this year, Madonna made history… again. I was part of it. And I loved being part of it. As a matter of fact, a significant portion of the population was part of it.

On March 3, 1989, I was a 13 year-old eighth grader who had gotten into the groove over and over… with her music, of course. And I wasn’t just like a virgin. I was a virgin, and it would be a few years before I would be touched for the very first time. Long ago, before I would dare acknowledge I was gay, before I even knew that loving Madonna was once considered prerequisite among admission requirements to the society of gay men, I loved my Madonna cassettes. I played them to death. I envisioned myself as the pervy little kid in the “Open Your Heart” video. I asked the middle school Spanish teacher what the Spanish lyrics in “La Isla Bonita” were. I thought “Who’s That Girl” was not only an awesome pop song, but that the film of the same name was worthy of being watched repeatedly.

In hindsight, I remember feeling a tingly at the sight of Griffin Dunne’s hairy chest in that film, but… eh, I was 13. What did I know? At the time, I was just confused. That’s what the priest told me in confession. But, anyway, back to that day in March, twenty years ago…

Way back when, after getting home from school, I would watch MTV when my father wasn’t home (watching music videos was tantamount to burning down the Vatican, so he couldn’t know I was doing it). I vividly remember seeing that Madonna’s ZOMG NEW VIDEO was premiering on Friday, March 3, 1989. The commercial promoting the premiere was practically titillating for me. And what was up with Madonna’s hair? She was platinum blonde before, but now, her hair was this gorgeous dark brown, falling in curls over her forehead and down just past her shoulders. And then, there was the spaghetti strap dress (?) showed her ample cleavage as she wrapped her arms around her torso; that tiny gap between her front teeth as her mouth opened in both singing and ecstasy.

I was so ready. I rushed home after school that Friday afternoon. The school bus let us off about one-half mile from my house and I raced through the Portuguese Catholic church parking lot on the end of my neighborhood, hopped the chain-link fence that separated it from the dead end street adjacent to mine, and made it home just in time for… Like A Prayer.

And it was jaw-dropping. I was a Roman Catholic altar boy who went to church every single week, but I was watching this violent and sexual piece with burning crosses and lots of cleavage, and… I was transfixed. I remember being alone in the living room, on our old scratchy couch, staring at the screen, and loving every minute of it.

For a number of years, I denied my favor for Madonna. It wasn’t until my early 30s when I finally realized that I didn’t really give a shit what it meant about me. Years after I came out, I was comfortable enough with who I was to say, “OH, God. I love Madonna. I love that song. I love this song. That video is hot.” And while I dropped the ball on her new single, Celebration, I was happy to finally not only hear it in my friend Peter’s apartment earlier this weekend, but also to see the video.

Of course, the video doesn’t relay the same artistic thrill that came from Like A Prayer, or her mega-smash from 1998, Ray Of Light, but it’s exciting, nonetheless. There’s an awesome energy that comes with Madonna’s dancing, that of many dancers joining her on the screen, her startlingly attractive young boyfriend, and an unexpected video debut by her (clearly talented) 12 year-old daughter, Lourdes. The editing is just right, the moves are just so, and the song… well…

The song itself, if you’ve yet to hear it, is pretty extraordinary, and with good reason: it was co-written, co-produced, and later remixed by Paul Oakenfold, a master of both house and trance music. While the video uses an edit of a Benny Benassi remix, the single has three mixes for which Oakenfold can claim credit. Truthfully, though – and this is an unquestionable rarity – there isn’t a bad remix to be found on the single.

Trust me when I say that you want to hear and watch this. You want to own this. It is this gay man’s humble opinion that every gay man should love Madonna’s new single and video. And not just because it’s Madonna, but because it’s a further and exciting reinvention of the Queen of Pop. You don’t find many 51 year-old divorced mothers in this world who can capture you this way.

In three and one-half minutes, she does it again. Check it out.
